There are two types of motorcycle drivers licenses in Florida. You must have one of the following if you are going to operate a two or three wheel motorcycle that has an engine over 50 cc.
Motorcycle Endorsement If you already have a Florida drivers license then you can get a motorcycle endorsement on the drivers license you hold. To obtain your motorcycle endorsement you must show proof that you have completed a motorcycle safety course.
Motorcycle Only License To get a Motorcycle Only license you must be at least 16 years old. You must have at least a regular Class E drivers license. You must complete the Basic Rider Course, regardless of age. Each State varies, so it is adviseable to check with your local DMV for the requirements.
Under 21 In addition, if you are under 21 you MUST show completion of a motorcycle training course.
Temporary Instruction Permit To Operate a Motorcycle If you are 21 or older, you may obtain permit that is valid for 90 days. With the temporary permit you cannot carry any passengers.
Florida Helmet Laws If you are 21 years old and covered by an insurance policy with at least $10,000 PIP coverage you or not required to wear a helmet. However XZILR8ING Motorsports owners strongly recommend that all riders wear helmets and protective riding clothes. Please make yourself as visible as possible. Note that law enforcement may stop you if you are not wearing a helmet and they believe you are under 21.
